7305 Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector – funding matters in England
Many centres have been very frustrated that their learners have had difficulty claiming the Student Support grants that HE learners have long had, and which were promised for City & Guilds DTLLS learners when the new qualifications started a year ago. We have for six months been pressurising DIUS to resolve the issue.
We are pleased to tell you that in July the Education Minister (Bill Rammell) approved the 'designation' of City & Guilds approved centres offering DTLLS courses, with effect from the start of the 2008/09 academic year. DIUS are currently in the process of issuing Student Support Funding numbers to approved centres in order to claim funding for their learners. You should hear very soon; if you do not please let us know so we can raise your case with DIUS. Thank you for your continued patience.
We have also been working through DIUS and LSC to resolve the problems some centres have experienced with their local LSC in obtaining funding for their programmes. We understand that a joint letter to resolve these difficulties is imminent.
